‘Woolwoman is a growing network rooted in relationships with shepherding communities across Occupied Palestine. Through research, art, and design, it works with shepherds, women, designers, architects, interior designers, and art curators to explore the material, cultural, and artistic possibilities of Palestinian wool. Beyond its value as a material, wool becomes an extension of Palestinian memory, carrying traces of the land, inherited knowledge, and the lived experiences of communities whose lives and practices remain deeply connected to it’.
Woolwoman Practise realised through
1. Research
Woolwoman Emerged from an ongoing research into Palestinian wool, started through an encounter with Palestinian women at Khan Al Ahmar, and investigated the knowledge carried through generations of shepherds and women who work with it and the land it comes from.
2. Art & Exhibitions
Unfolding through art, sound, and bodily performance, wool becomes a witness to untold stories, embodied knowledge, and the ongoing political realities shaping life in Palestine. Through material and gesture, the work brings attention to the lived experiences of Palestinian shepherding communities and the threats confronting their ways of life.
3. Design
Woolwoman brings these material stories into contemporary design. Wool becomes our thread: connecting rural landscapes with lived spaces, ancestral practices with new forms, and the hands that carry this knowledge with those who encounter it.
Each piece is part of an ongoing conversation between material, memory, and place; a way of keeping Palestinian wool present, not only as a heritage to remember, but as a living practice with possibilities for the future.
